Hello my name is John Dewey. I was born on October 20, 1859 In Burlington Vermont. I passed away on June 1, 1952 at the age of 92. To me there are two major topics that need attention or reconstruction. Those would be the society, and schools. Many people like to associate me with being a pragmatist. People also associate me as one of the advocates of hands on or experiential learning.

My views on education are as follows. Education and learning are social and interactive processes, and thus the school itself is a social institution through which social reform can and should take place. In addition, I believe that students thrive in an environment where they are allowed to experience and interact with the curriculum, and all students should have the opportunity to take part in their own learning. I believe that education is not only just a place to learn content knowledge, but also to learn how to live. I want to help students reach their full potential.

In my opinion, the best way for a student to learn is to be presented with material in which they can connect it to their prior knowledge and thus, deepen their connection with this new knowledge. We must find a balance between delivering knowledge while also taking into account the interests and experiences of the student. With that being said I feel as if too much reliance on a child could be catastrophic to the learning process. If we relay too much on the child it can minimize the importance of curriculum, and the role on the teacher.
